FOODS OF TURKEY
When I first moved to the US, with no access to unique Turkish foods and dishes, life became quite difficult for me after a few months. My student life without sucuk (Turkish pepperoni or sausage) or the delicious cheeses, börek (Turkish savory pastries) or bulgur available to buy, created a constant craving for home. Then, I heard from a Turkish friend that I could order many of these ingredients or prepared foods from Tulumba, an online Turkish grocery store. I could finally get those delicious cheeses, dolmas and even the charms known as “evil eye” with the click of a button from my home, here in the US. Tulumba.com serves US and other countries as well, from its headquarters in New York, with its impressive selection of Turkish products including foods and drinks, tea and coffee sets, videos, music and books, backgammon sets, jewelry and belly dancing accessories for the dancers among you.
The online store’s collection of Turkish culinary products include lokums (known as Turkish delight), olives, cheeses, sweets, spices, nuts, olive oil and prepared dishes like börek or canned vegetable dishes and mezzes (appetizers and side dishes).
If you prefer not to make purchases online via www.tulumba.com, you can also call them for your US or international shipment, toll free in the US at 1-866-885-8622, or for international shipments at 1-718-369-8904. The prices are not noticeably more expensive than in Turkey, shipments are usually timely, and the convenience of having these goodies shipped to your home is an additional bonus.
