FOODS OF TURKEY
This Turkish staple dish is always a favorite and again, it is vegetarian. It is served cold so once you make it you can keep it in the fridge for a few days and keep serving it as a side dish easily with many meals with your family. It is healthy and tasty. But best of all, it is really easy to make. For this dish you will need:
Ingredients:
Two pounds or one kilogram of long green beans
2 medium size tomatoes
1 medium size onion
1 clove of garlic
Two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
Salt to taste
Half a teaspoon of sugar (Sugar brings out the flavors.)
Instructions:
To prepare the beans for cooking, wash and cut the hardened tips, then cut the long ones into two. Also, chop the onions and tomatoes along with garlic. Put all ingredients in a pot along including the sugar. Add a small glass of water, and salt to the mix. Cover and cook in low heat until the beans come firm but cooked to your bite. You may need to add small amounts of water during cooking, to allow for the time required to cook the beans. And once they are cooked, which is when they are softer, there should also be some juice of the mixture left at the bottom of the pan.
The dish will be ready to serve once it is cooled for a day or several hours in the fridge. It can be served along with a meat dish and rice to complete a full dinner.
